Endometriosis Australia Welcomes South Australia’s Landmark Commitment to Women’s Health

Endometriosis Australia welcomes the re-elected South Australian Government’s landmark commitment to women’s health — a commitment that will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of women and girls across the state.

Prior to re-election, the Malinauskas Labor Government pledged $33 million to enhance women’s care in South Australia. This includes the establishment of five new women’s health clinics, a dedicated virtual clinic for pelvic pain, and the introduction of green whistle (methoxyflurane) for IUD insertions.

The commitment represents exactly the kind of bold, evidence-informed action that women have long been calling for. This is a significant step forward, and one that Endometriosis Australia has proudly championed alongside the women’s health community.

For the more than 830,000 Australians living with endometriosis, access to timely, specialist care is not a luxury — it is a necessity. Too many women have spent years navigating a fragmented system, waiting in pain for diagnoses and treatment. This commitment signals that South Australia is listening, and that change is possible when governments prioritise women’s health.

The virtual pelvic pain clinic is a particular milestone. By expanding access beyond metropolitan areas, this initiative has the potential to reach women in regional and rural communities who have historically faced the greatest barriers to care. Endometriosis Australia knows that geography should never determine a woman’s access to pain management and specialist support, and this announcement takes meaningful steps toward addressing that inequity.

The provision of green whistle for IUD insertions is equally welcome. Pain relief during gynaecological procedures has been overlooked for far too long. Ensuring women have access to effective analgesia is a matter of dignity and basic care, and Endometriosis Australia applauds this practical, patient-centred commitment.

Endometriosis Australia commends the South Australian Government for this investment and encourage other state and territory governments to follow their lead. Women’s health is not a niche issue — it is a public health priority — and today’s announcement is proof of what strong political will and community advocacy can achieve.

Endometriosis Australia looks forward to working alongside the South Australian Government to support the successful rollout of these services and to continuing our shared mission of ensuring no woman suffers in silence.
