See you later from Jodie

It is hard to believe that I have to say ‘See you later!’ to the Board of Endometriosis Australia and all the volunteers I have had the pleasure of working with during the creation of the organization. Since Donna and I met it has been a roller coaster ride to create Endometriosis Australia. Although it has not been easy it has all been worth it to see the positive change we have made in the lives of so many women in Australia.

I have to say ‘See you later!’ for health reasons, (I have to tell you writing this is harder than I thought it would be.) It is hard to step away from something you have put so many hours into building, which you still have passion for and hardest of all it is hard to step away from working with the incredible volunteer team. However given my health and the other demands in my life right now it is the right decision for my family and I.

To express how grateful I am it is time for the all-important thank you’s;

  • Donna, thank you for connecting with me on Facebook and agreeing to go on this journey with me.
  • Thank you to Dennis and Jason for the amazing learning experience of working with you.
  • Thank you to all of our volunteers for the opportunity to be a part of a group of truly inspiring women and for teaching me more than you will ever realize.
  • Thank you to our supporters for all of your hard work.

2015 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Endometriosis Australia. Even though I will not be involved in the behind the scenes, I will still be around as a supporter. I am so proud of what we have achieved to date and I have no doubt that what the team has planned for 2015 will blow us all away.

My personal motivation for starting Endometriosis Australia with Donna has not changed “Pain that puts your life on hold around or during your period is NOT a normal part of being a woman. 1 in ten women suffer from endometriosis, yet we don’t talk about it. We need to change that, if we want to break the cycle of pain now and for the next generation” (Jodie Dunne). I still believe that with all my heart, it reflects my endometriosis journey and it reflects my hopes and fears for my daughter as she grows into a young woman. It is why I will never stop working towards creating a positive change in endometriosis awareness, I just need to take it down a notch for a short time.

As they say it is not good bye it is ‘See you later!’ I hope that in the near future I will be able to rejoin the Endometriosis Australia team with the passion, energy, focus and dedication I believe it deserves.

Thank you, I will miss you all and always remember you matter!

Jodie Dunne
