PJ Madam is a UN award-winning reporter, documentary producer, writer, news anchor and film-maker. Born and raised in the small regional town of Mackay in North Queensland, PJ is the youngest daughter of a mixed-race, mixed culture and mixed religious family. Ever the debater and constantly questioning the world around her, it is little surprise PJ studied Politics and Media followed by Business and Journalism while at University.
For more than a decade, and across three of the major broadcasters (Seven, Nine and SBS), PJ filled nearly every role there is in a newsroom: cadet, assistant chief-of-staff, producer, associate producer, line up, reporter, and news anchor. As a current affairs reporter for Channel 7’s Sunday Night program, PJ travelled the world, interviewing people from all walks of life from terrorists, politicians, sports stars to celebrities. She has sat down opposite the likes of the late Jerry Lewis, David Frost, and Florence Henderson, Robbie Williams, One Direction, Meghan Trainor, Creedence Clear Water Revival and Jon Bon Jovi. One of her proudest achievements is receiving a UN award for her landmark investigation into sexual assault on Australian University campuses in 2016 – the first of its kind in the country.
PJ’s new love is documentary production. Together with her husband Tim Noonan, they established their production company, Wildman Films in 2016. Their maiden commission is a Netflix Unscripted Original called Extreme Engagement, is currently streaming worldwide. PJ and Tim produced, filmed, created and starred in the series which documents their journey to test PJ Madam whether their relationship could survive the wild marriage rituals of remote cultures before they tied the knot. In Episode 3, shot deep in the jungle of Papua New Guinea, PJ opened up about her battle with Endometriosis and received positive feedback from women all around the world for bringing this condition to light. This self-confessed city-girl is the first to admit that living out of a suitcase for 14 months, forgoing hot showers and electricity while getting constantly sick – changed her for the better. She hopes to continue travelling to film remote cultures and tribes around the world.
After testing her relationship with Tim around the world, PJ’s next rite of passage is motherhood. PJ and Tim had their first child in May 2020 and are over the moon. Ever curious about the world around her, PJ’s next mission is to work out how she can combine travelling and filming with a baby in her arms. PJ is also the first person to admit that she’s somewhat delusional but is equally keen to keep dreaming big.
