It took doctors 15 years to diagnose Elizabeth Russell with endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of a person’s uterus grows where it’s not supposed to.

Elizabeth flew 1,500 kilometres and paid for surgery privately because she couldn’t bear the thought of waiting on a public list for another year.

There’s no hard data on the difference for people who live in big cities compared to those who live in the bush, but everyone agrees location plays a huge factor in how quickly someone with endometriosis will be diagnosed and treated.
