Dr Sofie Piessens is a Belgian-trained obstetrician gynaecologist. After migrating to Australia in 1999, she completed O&G ultrasound subspecialty training (COGU) at Monash Medical Centre and the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Sofie is a consultant at the Imaging department at Monash Health in Melbourne and also works in private practice at Camberwell Ultrasound for Women, City Imaging Ultrasound for Women and Women’s Ultrasound Malvern. Her special interest is gynaecological ultrasound, particularly the non-invasive diagnosis of deep infiltrating endometriosis.

In 2009 she went as the first Australian specialist to Brazil to learn from Manuel Goncalves and Mauricio Abrao how to diagnose deep infiltrating endometriosis with transvaginal ultrasound and published the Australian results in the ANZJOG. She is passionate about raising awareness and improving the diagnosis of deep infiltrating endometriosis among the wider imaging community through workshops and online tutorials.
