Statement from Endometriosis Australia Board Chair Regarding Federal Government’s Women’s Health Package

Today’s announcement of a $573 million investment in women’s health by the Federal Government marks a significant step forward in addressing the critical healthcare needs of Australians living with endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain.

The commitment to fund an additional 11 specialised endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics, bringing the total to 33 nationwide, demonstrates a genuine understanding of the urgent need to improve access to specialised care for the close to 1 million Australians living with endometriosis.

These new clinics will play a vital role in reducing wait times, providing earlier intervention, and ensuring more equitable access to specialised treatment across the country. The expansion of these services, combined with their enhanced scope to include specialist support for menopause and perimenopause, represents a comprehensive approach to women’s health that has been long advocated for by our community.

“This investment will make a real difference in the lives of those living with endometriosis,” said Monica Forlano, Board Chair of Endometriosis Australia. “The expansion of specialised clinics means more Australians will be able to access the expert care they need, closer to home. This expansion supports Endometriosis Australia’s major Scholarship program to train 100 nurses in the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain course with Australian College of Nursing.

Ms Forlano added, “The increase in number of specialised clinics provides more opportunities for Endometriosis Australia Scholarship trained nurses to practice their new skills learned in the program and support more people living with Endometriosis (PLWE). For too long, many have faced excessive waiting times and geographical barriers to accessing specialised endometriosis care. These additional clinics represent hope for hundreds of thousands of patients across the country.”

We commend the government’s comprehensive approach to women’s health and look forward to working closely with stakeholders to ensure these new clinics are established efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of our community.

Endometriosis Australia as the recognised peak body,  remains committed to supporting  the lives of all those affected by endometriosis with our year-round fundraising campaigns to train 100 nurses specialised in Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain care by end of 2026.
