Endometriosis Awareness Adelaide (EAA) are holding a Gala Ball in support of Endometriosis Australia on March 10th of this year.
How are women with endometriosis affected?
For many endometriosis sufferers, the hardest part can often be the emotional strain these symptoms can have on the sufferer and their loved ones, and despite 1 in 10 women being diagnosed at some point int their life, endometriosis remains very much misunderstood, or even unknown, by many despite its incredible reach across women from all demographics and backgrounds. Many of these woman suffer in silence or with little resources to properly cope with their experiences, which is where EAA endeavours to create a stronger support network for those who need it.
So what is the purpose of the ball?
Our main objective of the Gala ball is to raise much needed funding to support Endometriosis Australia in continuing their invaluable work. These funds allow the people of Endometriosis Australia to provide valuable ongoing education, awareness and funding research to better the lives of all sufferers. The ball does have a secondary and equally important objective;
EAA have always placed a strong focus on creating a larger awareness about endometriosis and providing those affected the support and resources in the hopes that future breakthroughs will lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment for women in South Australia and beyond. {At this time, it is usual for a 7 to 10 year delay in diagnosis for Australian women.}
EAA have assembled a number of outstanding individuals to attend the ball in March as guest speakers, including world-renowned Endometriosis specialist Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison. Dr Behnia-Willison is a pioneer in minimally-invasive surgery in Australia, with focus on Single-Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) while recently completing the first SILS in Tehran and training the locals in advanced gynaecological practices.
Other incredible guest speakers include Ryan Rose, Research Coordinator at Fertility SA and Kristy Brouwer, long-time endometriosis sufferer. We anticipate those attending the ball should walk away with a better understanding of endometriosis as well as the physical and emotional toll it takes on sufferers and their loved ones.
