Fiona Stevens
NSW
Fiona is a Fellow, International League of Conservation Writers, Member of Australian Society of Authors, Professional Member, Wellbeing Australia, poet, and Blue Mind Ambassador. As an Endometriosis Australia ambassador, she is committed to promoting facts, advance the rights of women and girls, and to empower them to fully participate in all aspects of their endometriosis journey.
Over the years as a Blue Mind ambassador, Fiona has been committed to making a positive impact. From sharing her individual experiences to inspiring others to find their own blue mind, she’s excited to be part of a community that’s making blue mind science common knowledge. Blue Mind is a scientific concept coined by marine biologist and New York Times best-selling author Dr Wallace J Nichols, who delves into the connection between our wellbeing and water environments.
Fiona loves collaborating with educators, scientists, artists, wildlife photographers, entrepreneurs, creators, nutritionists, business leaders and organizations, creating impactful and inspiring initiatives. With a unique perspective as a poet, she brings creativity and empathy to her mission. Through outreach, awareness, resources, and creative engagement, she supports women in achieving optimal wellbeing. With an educational foundation in the humanities, Fiona offers a distinctive viewpoint and practices that contribute to the holistic understanding and promotion of wellbeing.
In her creative collaborations, she joined forces with an Award-winning the Explorers Club, Smithsonian Institution, and American Alpine Club photographer for a visual and poetic adventure. She has also collaborated with an Award-winning Conservation photographer and environmental scientist, and a citizen scientist with 30 years’ experience who has studied whales on the whale deck and in the field, photographing them in the wild. His research has contributed to papers in the International Marine Mammal Science and his research output in academic papers.
Her work focuses on wellbeing, and explores the benefits of green and blue spaces, whole person learning, the power of water, ‘blue mind’ science, conservation, social issues, creativity, positive psychology, and women’s health. In her formative years, she worked as an English instructor in Japan. As a young girl she adopted dolphins from the Port Philip Bay area, and this sparked her interest in ocean advocacy. She completed a Marine Mammal Rescue Training workshop with ORRCA (Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia). Fiona is also a qualified Manicurist and Pedicurist having achieved certification in Nail Technology. Recently, she has written a personal development, lifestyle, and wellbeing book, as well as a collection of verses titled ‘Fine Bamboo.’ She is producing an audiobook of the same title. Fiona is collaborating with a photographer in wildlife photography and conservation to increase awareness about the planet and species that inhabit it. She is committed to working in the wellbeing field to share her insights and assist individuals on their wellbeing journey.
Fiona’s diagnosis with endometriosis over twenty years ago allowed her to understand the condition from a physical, social, emotional, fertility, and economic perspective. She remains motivated to raise awareness of the challenges individuals face and the importance of early diagnosis and support. She believes everyone’s journey is unique and encourages individuals to conduct their own research and advocate for themselves.
