Professor Kim-Chi Phan-Thien is a specialist colorectal and robotic surgeon based in Sydney, with expertise in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery for complex colorectal and pelvic conditions.

Kim is a Conjoint Professor of Surgery at the University of New South Wales. She has a passion for teaching and has been honoured with awards from the University of New South Wales and the Academy of Surgical Educators of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for her contributions to medical education. Kim is an Examiner to the Court of General Surgery. She is actively involved in research and has been an invited speaker at numerous scientific meetings. Kim’s research collaborations in Lynch syndrome have led to the NSW Premier’s Award for Excellence in Translational Cancer Research.

Kim is a pioneering robotic surgeon and is one of the most experienced robotic colorectal surgeons in Australia. She belongs to a select group of surgeons who perform robotic surgery on multiple platforms. As a proctor and educator, Kim helps with the training of surgeons in robotic techniques across Australia and Southeast Asia.

Alongside her colorectal practice, Kim works collaboratively with gynaecologists in the multidisciplinary management of endometriosis to deliver patient-centred care. Through her clinical, academic and educational leadership, Kim is committed to improving outcomes for women living with endometriosis.
