Doctor Michael Wynn-Williams

MBChB, FRANZCOG

Dr Michael Wynn-Williams is an Auckland-based Gynaecologist and Endometriosis Specialist with extensive experience in minimally invasive pelvic surgery. He favours a multidisciplinary approach to managing complex endometriosis cases and pelvic pain. Michael trained in obstetrics and gynaecology in Christchurch, New Zealand, and it was there that he developed his interest in caring for women with endometriosis. Post-training, he undertook a two-year Fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery with A/Prof Alan Lam in Sydney. Michael backed up his sub-specialty training with a post-fellowship year in Glasgow, before completing a 2-year consultant post at Cambridge University NHS Trust, Addenbrooke’s Hospital.  

Sharing his knowledge and skills with the next generation of women’s health specialists, Michael taught and demonstrated advanced laparoscopic gynaecology surgery to doctors around the United Kingdom and Ireland. He continues to teach and demonstrate advanced laparoscopic surgery to gynaecologists around Australia, New Zealand, and Mongolia.  

Dr Wynn-Williams was a Co-founder and Director of Eve Health in Brisbane. He also provided public and private hospitals services for 14 years. In Brisbane, Michael trained many gynaecology Fellows to perform advanced laparoscopic gynaecology surgery under the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery (AGES) Society’s two-year training program. In 2020, Michael returned home to New Zealand to be based in Auckland, where he continues his endometriosis and persistent pelvic pain practice for women as Lead in Minimally Invasive Gynaecology at Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) and in private practice.  

The doctor l is keeping his strong links with Australia as a board member of AGES and through working with the National Endometriosis Clinical and Scientific Trials (NECST) Network. He is always striving to progress his learning and increase his ability to provide the best care for women. He has a strong an interest in the multidisciplinary management of chronic pelvic pain, including the use of Botox for the treatment of pelvic floor hypertonic disorders.
