Endometriosis Australia Welcomes 2025 Budget Boost for Women’s Health

MEDIA STATEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

26 MARCH 2025

Endometriosis Australia today welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving endometriosis care in the 2025-26 Budget, highlighting crucial investments that will significantly impact women’s healthcare across the nation.

Associate Professor Anusch Yazdani, Medical Director of Endometriosis Australia, expressed cautious optimism about the budget’s targeted interventions. “These budget measures represent a pivotal moment in our ongoing fight to improve diagnosis, treatment, and support for the close to 1 million Australians living with endometriosis,” said A/Prof Yazdani.

Key Budget Highlights:

Specialist Endometriosis Clinics

The government’s continued investment in dedicated endometriosis clinics addresses a critical gap in specialised healthcare. “These clinics are more than just medical facilities – they are a lifeline for patients who have historically struggled to receive comprehensive, compassionate care,” A/Prof Yazdani explained.

New MBS Item for Specialist Endometriosis Ultrasound

A groundbreaking addition to the Medicare Benefits Schedule will provide financial support for specialised ultrasound techniques crucial in diagnosing endometriosis. “This MBS item is a game-changer,” A/Prof Yazdani noted. “It recognises the complex diagnostic challenges of endometriosis and provides a tangible financial pathway for more accurate and earlier detection.”

Ongoing Challenges

While welcoming these investments, Prof Yazdani emphasised the continued need for a comprehensive approach. “We’re seeing progress, but there’s still significant work to be done. These budget measures are important steps, but they must be part of a broader, sustained commitment to women’s health.”

Impact on Patient Care

The budget measures are expected to:

  • Reduce diagnostic delays
  • Improve access to specialised care
  • Decrease the economic burden on patients
  • Enhance understanding and recognition of endometriosis as a serious health condition

“Every investment like this brings us closer to our vision of a future where no person suffers in silence or struggles to access the care they deserve,” Prof Yazdani added.

Call to Continued Action

Endometriosis Australia remains committed to:

  • Advocating for continued research funding
  • Supporting patient education and awareness
  • Pushing for comprehensive, equitable healthcare solutions
